Exploring how hormones affect brain and behaviour

As anyone who has gone through puberty, menopause or pregnancy can attest, hormones have a profound impact on our mind. We are currently investigating four main areas of research: the long and short term effects of pregnancy and mothering on memory and neuroplasticity, estradiol and estrone’s effects on learning and memory and relation to neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus; preclinical models of postpartum depression and sex differences in behavioural and neural consequences of stress.

We are located in the Djavad Mowafaghia Centre for Brain Health at the University of British Columbia in beautiful Vancouver, BC. Our laboratory is associated with the Neuroscience Program at UBC and the Department of Psychology. Students interested in graduate studies can apply through either the Neuroscience or Psychology Program.
